Wildfire Preparedness

Working Together to Reduce Wildfire Risk in Our Neighborhood

Dear Neighbors,

I am your neighbor on Spring Drive and your Elk Creek Fire Protection District Community Ambassador.  My role is to help reduce wildfire risk in our neighborhood by connecting residents with trusted information and resources that support wildfire preparedness and forest health.

Our neighborhood is known as the Woodside Planning Unit. Wildfire preparedness here depends on neighbors working together and having access to timely, accurate information.

I share updates via email and Facebook. If you’re not already on the email list, please let me know - I’m happy to add you, and your email will remain confidential.
Join us on Facebook: Woodside Park - Units 1, 2, 3, 4

You’ll receive practical, timely information, including:
  • Tips to protect your family, home, and pets from wildfire.
  • Details about the free chipping program, slash drop-off sites, grant opportunities, and other helpful home hardening and wildfire mitigation resources.
  • Ways to help make our forest healthier and more resilient.
  • Updates about our Firewise USA® program and its benefits.
  • Information about the Elk Creek Fire Protection District and the emergency services they provide.
  • Opportunities to participate in neighborhood wildfire mitigation projects.
  • Invitations to community education events.

Wildfire risk here is real, but so are the beauty, peace, and sense of community that make our mountain home so special. That’s exactly why protecting this incredible place matters. Together, we can strengthen our neighborhood’s safety and resilience.

Please reach out with any questions, to share your contact information, or just to say hello - I would love to hear from you!

Best regards,

Becky Canterbury

Quick Start Guide
Becoming Wildfire-Aware & Prepared

Essential first steps to protect your home and family from wildfire
  • Sign Up for Emergency Alerts!
When there is an immediate threat to life and property, such as a wildfire, receive real-time evacuation and emergency notifications. Sign up for emergency alerts for both Park and Jefferson counties:
  • Park County CodeRED: www.parkcountyco.gov/97/CodeRED
  • Jefferson County LookoutAlert: www.jeffco.us/473/Emergency-Notifications
**Important: Evacuations are typically announced using Planning Unit names: your home is in the Woodside Planning Unit
  • Download the Watch Duty App
This free app sends timely wildfire alerts, including evacuation status, road closures, air quality, etc.  Free in your app store or visit: www.watchduty.org
  • Order a Reflective Address Sign
Poorly marked homes can delay emergency response. Standardized reflective address signs help first responders locate your home quickly:  https://inter-canyonfpd.colorado.gov/support/address-signs
  • Review Defensible Space & Home Hardening Tips
The Home Ignition Zone Guide offers expert advice on reducing risk around your home.   Home Ignition Zone Guide  Prefer a hard copy?  I'm happy to drop one off for you!
  • Schedule a Wildfire Prepared Assessment
A Wildfire Mitigation Specialist will meet with you on your land and provide a custom report with clear, actionable recommendations.  Bonus: Residents with assessments often receive priority for grant funding and mitigation support.  www.wildfireprepared.com

Forestry Management Contractors
The following list is not meant to be all inclusive nor act as an endorsement of any business entity. The list was compiled by our local chapter of Wildfire Prepared. Neither
Wildfire Prepared nor the Woodside HOA recommend any one contractor over another on this list. No representation for services is implied by the presence of a contractor name. If a homeowner selects a contractor to carry out work, the homeowner is responsible for supervising the work and payment.   All listed contractors work in Conifer, Evergreen, Genesee. Littleton/Morrison west of C470, Clear Creek County or Pine. Verification of current licensure and insurance status of the contractors is the homeowner's responsibility.   Click here for a list of contractors (2024 Rotary Wildfire list).

Wildfire Evacuation Checklists
It is important to have a plan and rehearse it in case of a wildfire or other natural disaster impacting our neighborhood. Keep your "go bag" packed and make sure you have a "go bag" for your pets. Below are links to several checklists compiled from a variety of sources. It is also critical to stay informed during any emergency as these are dynamic events. For example, evacuation routes may be compromised and you may need to access alternates routes. The best way to stay informed is via CodeRed (Park County) and Lookout Alert (Jefferson County). It is highly encouraged that you sign up for one or both of these services.
