911 and your location

Using Wi-Fi Calling? Would 911 Know Where to Find You?

Do you have Wi-Fi Calling turned on? If so, is your Emergency Address up to date?

Many Woodside residents depend on Wi-Fi Calling because cellular service can be weak or unreliable. When a 911 call is placed over Wi-Fi, your cellular carrier may use the
Emergency Address - or E911 address - registered with your phone to help route the call and identify your location.

That address is not the same as live location tracking. If it is missing, outdated, or different from where you are calling, emergency responders could be delayed or sent to the wrong location. Your Emergency Address is stored with your cellular carrier through your phone’s Wi-Fi Calling settings - not in your Wi-Fi router.

Take a 60-second safety check

iPhone
Go to:
Settings → Cellular
or Settings → Apps → Phone → Wi-Fi Calling

Then select Update Emergency Address and confirm that your physical address is correct.

Android

Go to:
Settings → Network & Internet, Connections, SIMs, or Mobile Network → Wi-Fi Calling
Then look for Emergency Address or Update Emergency Address. Android menus vary by phone and carrier, so contact your cellular provider if you cannot find the setting.

Whenever you call 911
Immediately tell the dispatcher:
  • Your exact street address
  • Your community and county
  • Where the emergency is occurring
Do not assume the dispatcher can see your current location - even when Location Services are turned on. The FCC recommends stating the location of the emergency immediately.

Sign up for emergency alerts, too
Because Woodside Park and our regular travel routes cross Park and Jefferson counties, please register for both local alert systems:

Park County - CodeRED: www.parkcountyco.gov/97/CodeRED

Provides emergency notifications, including evacuation and other critical public-safety messages.

Jefferson County - LookoutAlert: www.jeffcosheriffco.gov/safety/oem#lookout-alert

Provides location-based emergency notifications for wildfires, evacuations, severe weather and other public-safety incidents.

LookoutAlert is provided through the Smart911 platform.

Where supported, a
Smart911 Safety Profile can provide dispatchers with information you choose to enter, such as household members, pets, medical needs, emergency contacts, driveway access or gate information.

These tools serve different purposes:
your Wi-Fi Calling Emergency Address helps with a 911 call, CodeRED and LookoutAlert send emergency notifications, and Smart911 may provide additional information to dispatchers.

In an emergency, don’t assume 911 knows where you are - tell them right away.
