About This Info
Living in the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) & Property Insurance

The Conifer Townhall meeting October 28, 2025 “Living in the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) & Property Insurance” meeting was both informative and very well attended. The full house of more than 170 participants underscores just how deeply the property insurance crisis is affecting homeowners in our area. https://elkcreekfpd.colorado.gov/events/community-meeting-living-in-the-wildland-urban-interface-wui-property-insurance

Key resources you may find helpful in exploring these topics further.

United Policyholders (UP) – www.uphelp.org
UP is a nonprofit consumer advocacy group. Their website is quite comprehensive (and sometimes a bit tricky to navigate), so I’ve attached a few of their most useful info sheets:
  • Ten Preparedness Tips for Colorado – A great place to start for becoming a more informed and proactive insurance consumer, especially given the rapidly changing insurance climate in our area.
  • Insurance Check-Up – A practical list of questions to ask your agent or broker to ensure your policy is current and provides adequate coverage.
  • Dropped by Your Insurer – A must-read outlining immediate steps to take if you receive a non-renewal or cancellation notice.

You can also explore UP’s Home Insurance Shopping Help section here: https://uphelp.org/home-insurance-shopping-help-co/
UP is conducting a survey to collect data related to challenges Colorado residents are facing in the property insurance market. Your feedback helps UP help Colorado residents. You can take the survey here: www.uphelp.org/cohomesurvey

Colorado FAIR Plan – https://www.coloradofairplan.com/
This state-backed program provides property insurance for Colorado homeowners who are unable to secure coverage through standard insurers. It’s designed as a last-resort option, once all other avenues have been explored.
